The land came first. Three generations tapped rubber on this slope before anyone thought of welcoming guests. In 2016 the family opened the house — and chose, from the beginning, to rent it only as a whole.

That decision shapes everything. There is no reception, no corridor of numbered doors and no stranger at the breakfast table. One group stays at a time: 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, 2 attached bathrooms, a living room and a dining area, all of it yours.

What surrounds it hasn't changed either. Coffee at six, fog until eight, hills in every window and a village that goes about its morning whether or not you are watching. A traditional Kerala breakfast can be arranged on request for an extra charge; the rest of the day is entirely your own.
